For All Ages — the $64,000 Question

What does Revlon, Futurama, American Trust Co., Mining, Unions, Citizenship, The Constitution, Senators, Women Voting, Marriage, Prohibition, the Bible, 21st Amendment, Firemen, Airlines, and Saving .35 Cents have in common?

Concerning Thought

Who’s old enough to remember when someone had a million dollars they were “set for life” vs. now when it means “maybe I can start a modest retirement at age 75 as long as inflation doesn’t get too bad from here?”- Adam Taggart @menlobear

I must say I’m shocked millions of seniors aren’t out picketing in front of the Federal Reserve. — Adam Taggart

The Fed pulled out the rug from them right as they retired, nuking their ability to generate a livable fixed income of the savings they spent their whole lives building. — Adam Taggart

Some of us remember thinking saving a million in cash and getting 5–6% interest was a good goal at retirement. It’s hard when a savings account is 0.5%. -S. Shawn

Today’s salary is not increasing as much as inflation. Sadly, we’re all working harder than ever and feel we will be poorer in 10 years, just wrong. — C. D. P

Here’s a thought. Car A: $60,000, Car B: $20,000. Both cars drive you to work. One keeps you stuck there. — The Car Guy

The $64,000 Question was a game show broadcast on CBS-TV, 1955–1958. Contestants answered general knowledge questions, earning money which doubled, etc. The final question had a top prize of $64,000 ($620,000 in 2020). (But remember: Our coins were 90% silver; dollar good as gold.) — D. Blair Macrory

Opposing Thought

Concerning seniors sounds very hyperbolic. Today’s seniors lived through the greatest ever economic expansion. They have a lot of cash. They have a lot of real estates. Many have pensions. They likely own high dividend stock and government bonds. Not crying for the seniors! — D. C. Duckworth

My Thoughts

Don’t chase money the best advice one can receive. Instead, work for a cause that makes you happy. Then, learn how to invest your money and invest in those things that make people happy. In return, you’ll be the wealthiest person, never needling to retire and still involved with others in the world.

That said, most people, 80% (out of thin air) today retire with conservative means and a budget. What percentage of that 80% know how to manage money and have enough to retire?

Watch the 30-minute show and find out!
